Social Responsibility – The Rainbow Academy

01.06.2022 - 30.06.2022

We have teamed up with The Rainbow Academy, South Africa’s award-winning school of performing arts and business, with the aim to empower youth and inspire talented performers by providing accredited qualifications, skills training and job placement in the business sector and arts, film, and hospitality industries.

The Rainbow Academy is a registered non-profit organisation in Cape Town, South Africa, and targets 18 to 25-year-old students who hold a National Senior Certificate but lack the financial backing to pursue further education.

The academy provides a one-to-two-year scholarship and bridging program designed to provide strong academic, practical, and experiential training that ensures graduates qualify with recognised certificates, diplomas, job, and industry experience making them exceptional and employable.

The programme is full-time, accredited and aimed at providing disadvantaged youth with the best possible training and opportunities for building sustainable and successful careers in education, employment, and entrepreneurship within the cultural and creative sectors.

Each year, 40 students are selected from hundreds of applications across the country. These students then go on to receive free, full-time, holistic, and professional training in Music, Drama, Musical Theatre, Dance, African Music, Film, Digital, Business, Life Skills, Hospitality, and Cultural Tourism.

Students also perform in professional shows, events, and productions, and are featured in live TV and radio interviews- enabling them to build their portfolios, gain experience, access professional networks, and tap into industry leads. The curriculum also focuses strongly on mentorship, personal development, leadership, and entrepreneurship.

The Rainbow Academy’s aim is to do as much as they can to tackle the high unemployment rate in South Africa and we at newkings boutique hotel share in this vision.
