Letter from our General Manager - March Madness

01.03.2023 - 31.03.2023

March is a bumper month for Cape Town! The city is getting ready to bask in the last of its warm sunny days as the city plays host to events both visitors and locals will relish in… from sports to pride and fashion events, the city is guaranteed to tick all the boxes for its visitors this month!

To top that off, we are also spoilt with a public holiday (Human Rights Day on 21 March), which has nudged many to turn the weekend of 17 March into a super long weekend.
PLUS it’s the start of the school holidays on 27 March in the run-up to the Easter break. And we're here to welcome you and let the good times roll.

Every weekend, for the month of March there's something fun happening, and we don’t want you to miss out. Our favourite upcoming events include:

  • Cape Town Pride (4 March)
  • DHL Stormers vs Cell C Sharks (4 March)
  • The 45th Cape Town Cycle Tour (12 March)
  • Cape Town Carnival (18 March)
  • Cape Town Fashion Week (21 to 25 March)

On 25 March the world also observes Earth Hour, a symbolic event where everyone is encouraged to switch off their lights for 60 minutes to support the planet collectively. But, as many of you will know, here in South Africa we’ve been switching off our lights, every day for a while now J –  we realise how inconvenient loadshedding is for our guests therefore we are happy to inform you that newkings boutique hotel is prepped with our on-site generator and in-room uninterruptible power sources (UPS).

We also look forward to The Rainbow Academy's Gala Fundraising Dinner on 4 March (details below). The newkings boutique hotel is committed to continuing its CSR partnership with this amazing organisation as they continue to empower our local youth.

A huge thank you to our returning guests who have become The newkings'  royal family – this month we welcome back our little cricket stars from Middlesex Cricket Team, based out of the Lord's Cricket Ground in London who come to play local schools in Cape Town twice a year. This amazing team uses this time to have fun in the sun and spend time with their families that join them. The team was very sad to leave sunny Cape Town and head back to the cold weather of the UK. But they will be back soon.

We are looking forward to hosting you!
